If it was not for Steph Curry's outstanding play, Kawhi Leonard, small forward for the San Antonio Spurs, would be leading the MVP candidate. The Spurs defeated the Cleveland Cavaliers Thursday night 99-95. Leonard stuffed the box score with 20 points, 10 rebounds, five assists, two blocks and one steal. Leonard's night proved to NBA fans everywhere that he is the real deal. Leonard has become a familiar face for the devoted basketball fan. Yet, Leonard had not garnered the shine that other young stars are receiving around the league. This is most likely due to his quiet and professional approach to the game. He does not bring the flare Russell Westbrook does on a nightly basis. When he talks, no one listens, frankly because he barely does talk.
So, someone who does know a thing or two about babbling helped put Leonard on the national spotlight.
Leonard has been on a tear this season. Leonard possesses a myriad of skills on the court. To be quite honest, there is not much Leonard cannot do on the court. Leonard is strong and quick. His defensive prowess lets him completely blanket any player in the NBA. He was a limited scorer early on in his career, yet so far in the 2015-2016 season, Leonard leads the Spurs in scoring with 21.6 points a night. Leonard has already won the Finals MVP trophy in 2014, then added the 2015 Defensive Player of the Year award to his trophy case.
The Spurs are 35-6 this year, mainly because Kawhi Leonard has stepped his game up to a new level. A "best player in the world" level
